Geniş Zaman vs. Şimdiki Zaman — Aorist vs. Present Progressive

Geniş Zaman (Aorist) — -r / -ar / -er / -ir
Ben her sabah uyanırım.
I wake up every morning.
Habitual, general truth, routine — just like English simple present: "I wake up", "She drinks tea"
Şimdiki Zaman (Progressive) — -iyor
Şu an uyanıyorum.
I am waking up right now.
Action happening at this moment — like English present continuous: "I am waking up", "She is drinking"
Aorist = English Simple Present
Ben çay içerim.
I drink tea. (I always / usually do)
Think of -r suffix as the "habit suffix" — it describes what you normally do, just like "I drink", "I sleep"
-iyor = English -ing form
Ben çay içiyorum.
I am drinking tea. (right now)
The -iyor suffix always signals an ongoing action — just like English "be + -ing"
-r / -ar / -er / -ir → Aorist (habit) -iyor / -ıyor → Progressive (now)
Aorist suffix changes with vowel harmony: uyanırım, içerim, gitirim, kalkarım
