2. The Bergama Tradition
Bergama carpets are the descendants of the ancient Pergamon culture, deeply rooted in nomadic (Yörük) traditions.
Key Motifs in this Piece:
- Geometric Medallions: Unlike the rounded Uşak forms, Bergama uses octagons and squares representing protection and tribal stamps (Tamga).
- Elibelinde (Hands-on-Hips): A sacred symbol of femininity, fertility, and the mother goddess.
- The Scorpion (Akrep): Used on the borders to protect the owner from external harm.
Technical Note: Bergama carpets are famous for their long-pile wool and "Wool on Wool" structure.
